Kangaroo Design Options

STRAND COUNT

All kangaroo products can be braided with 4, 6, or 8 braided strands. In general, the fewer the strands, the narrower the item.

Factors to consider:
  • Intended use of item.
  • Some dogs may require a higher number of strands for strength and safety.
  • More sensitive dogs may require a wider collar.
  • Comfort, yours and your dogs.

All kangaroo items are braided around extremely strong, kevlar cores. Ends are secured via backbraiding around hardware.

4 strand braid = approximately 1/8" wide
6 strand braid = approximately 3/16" wide
8 strand braid = approximately 1/4" wide

BRAIDING PATTERNS
When using more than one color.

When you have multiple colors of kangaroo leather in an item, the order and position I place the strands will result in different patterns. Below, you will see some of the most popular braiding patterns…when using more than one color.

BRAIDED BUTTONS

Very few of the custom leash makers utilize braided buttons. Why? Because they are difficult and time consuming. We take pride in our braiding and like to show off our skill by doing something out of the ordinary.

Even a plain kangaroo lead can be made extra special with the addition of a button at each end of the lead. Most buttons can be done with 2 colors, making it stand out even more.

Buttons can be added just about anywhere on your lead or collar. They can also be utilized inside bead combinations. However, adding TOO many buttons will make your item less flexible. Consider your use of the item when deciding how many buttons to add.

Spanish Ring knots - Narrow button (red knots on either end of the silver ferrule) used as an accent on the lead. It can be placed alongside either of the two larger buttons or in bead combinations. Can only be braided as a solid colored button.

Turk's Head button - Relatively short button (about 1/2" long) that can be used on collars or leads, either as a stand alone button or inside bead combinations.

4 strand items - solid colored only
6 and 8 strand items - solid or two-tone button

Pineapple button - longest button (almost 1 1/2" long), normally placed on the ends of leashes or collars. Can also be used instead of a bead, as the focal point in a bead combination. The size of these buttons do vary slightly, depending on the strand count of the item it is being braided on.

6 and 8 strand items - solid or two-tone button

BEADS

I can not even begin to list all of the beads I have in stock, as I have a slight addiction to beads and am continually adding to my collection. :) So, for now, I am simply listing the special handmade beads, which I have accumulated from several artists whose beads I absolutely adore. Silver, gold, or solid colored beads can be added to these to complete your perfect look. Or, if you want smaller regular beads (and usually less expensive), I can pull together several options for you to see.

HARDWARE

Are you tired of your small dog carrying around a huge snap because it is what comes on the larger lead? Order the perfect size here. A variety of types and sizes are available for your consideration. Just remember to keep the size of your dog and his walking habits in mind - if he pulls you down the street, you may want a larger snap.
